Description: Before it proceeds further, we strongly urge the FHFA to provide a detailed, public explanation of the purpose, need, contents, use, and security of the National Mortgage Database, as well as the FHFA’s authority to create it and share its contents. The FHFA then should solicit public comment on the NMD, properly described. Only after considering these comments should the FHFA decide whether or how to proceed.
